Salta La Linda and Jujuy

City: Salta y Jujuy, North de Argentina

Description:

Andean Roundabout (Salta – San Antonio de los Cobres – Salinas Grandes – Purmamarca- Humahuaca – Jujuy – Salta)

Day 1: Departure by plane from Buenos Aires to Salta city . Transfer to the hotel. Salta is the most traditional city in northern Argentina. Conservative in its customs, proud of its heritage, rich in landscapes and colonial in its architecture, we savour each of its corners with an afternoon city tour. We take you on a ride through Salta’s historical center, an active discovery of colonial houses, awesome churches and ancient legends. We drive to the top of San Bernardo Hill to enjoy a magnificent view of the entire valley and later take you to San Lorenzo, a small summer village with a fresh, green gorge surrounded by the Yungas jungle. Return and night in Salta.
Day 2: We leave Salta at 7:00 AM driving to the west. In Santa Rosa de Tastil we hike for half an hour through the ruins of an impressive pre-Inca citadel, now deserted in the hallucinatory Puna. Afterwards we follow the road parallel to the Train to the Clouds, zigzagging between the blue sky and the Altiplano to reach San Antonio de los Cobres at midday. It is the Train’s famous destination, a small miner’s town where we stop for lunch (not included). In the afternoon we drive north to Purmamarca, in the Province of Jujuy. Here and there we see scattered houses, it is where llama and vicuña shepherds live in the Puna’s solitude. In our way we visit the impressive Salinas Grandes, a massive white extension under a usually vibrating sun. We stop for a walk there. The color contrast is superb when the day’s sunny. The immense Lipán slope leads us to the village of Purmamarca and the extraordinary Seven Color Hill, one of the tours’ most incredible landmarks. Later we drive north to reach Tilcara, a charming town where we stop for the night.
Day 3: The following day we visit Tilcara, paying special atention to the Archeological Museum and the Pucara (indian ruins). Afterwards we continue our way through the Humahuaca Gorge, a cultural World Heritage Site surrounded by beautiful mountains. After lunch (not included) we get back to Salta, stopping by to know the most charming villages on our way. Night in Salta.
Day 4: Transfer to the airport and come back to Buenos Aires by plane.
